A Fairy Hunter’s Guide for the Recently (Un)Dead - ARC Review

Thank you so much to Naughty Nook PR and the author for gifting me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own!

A Fairy Hunter’s Guide for the Recently (Un)Dead by Cynthia Prith comes out on 5/13/2025. This 429-page independent book is a delight for those who want an introspective romantasy.

This book gives a lot of lore in a way that reminds me of The Lord of the Rings in the best possible way. The first-person POV follows Gwendolyn after she dies from TB and finds herself in the Fairy Realm. Every time she falls asleep, she goes to the Fairy Realm, which is ruled by the Fairy Lord - a dark, enigmatic, and charming ruler. He’s sexy and dangerous, but could he be a potential ally, or just a distraction? Another potential ally is the Blighted Knight, who is bound to the Fairy Lord to be the reluctant foe to Gwendolyn.

This book uses the juxtaposition of our world and the Fairy Realm to show the difference between showing and telling. Gwendolyn just kind of floats through the real world, leaving it gray and flimsy, whereas the Fairy Realm is described in startling, lush detail which shows us everything.

A Fairy Hunter’s Guide for the Recently (Un)Dead is the first book of The Uncivil Wars series. 4/5 Stars!
